Growing the sport of disc golf on BC's Sunshine Coast

The future of disc golf at Shirley Macey Park

The Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) has directed the Sunshine Coast Disc Golf Association (SCDGA) to decommission the Back 9 layout at Shirley Macey Park immediately.

This is difficult news, but we are obligated to comply in order to ensure the future of the Front 9 layout at Shirley Macey Park and potential future courses on SCRD lands.

It’s important to note that the Back 9 layout was never approved by SCRD Parks Staff and was constructed before the formal inception of the SCDGA and its partnership with the SCRD. Still, the SCDGA have maintained the Back 9 layout and have made improvements to it, which were not authorized by the SCRD.

We need your help to show the SCRD that only 9 holes of public disc golf is not enough to meet the demands of this community.

What you can do:

  1. Voice your opinion to your local area representative:

    Gibsons: silas.white@scrd.ca
    Langdale: kate.stamford@scrd.ca
    Elphinstone: Donna.McMahon@scrd.ca`
    Sechelt: john.henderson@scrd.ca
    Shíshálh Nation: Philip.paul@scrd.ca
    Pender Harbour: Leonard.Lee@scrd.ca
    Halfmoon Bay:justine.gabias@scrd.ca
    Roberts Creek: kelly.backs@scrd.ca
  1. Cease play on the Back 9 layout immediately
  2. Continue to be respectful of nearby residents and other park users

When voicing your opinion, please be respectful and understand that your voice represents the entire Sunshine Coast disc golf community. Again, while we’re all disappointed with this decision, we have to acknowledge that we were never authorized to expand into the Back 9 area of the park.

Tell the SCRD how much you love this course, how much you love this community, and how the existing Front 9 infrastructure is not adequately serving the public. Tell them how badly the Sunshine Coast needs MORE places to play, not fewer! Again, please keep it respectful.
