Recap: 2025 SCDGA Tour Tee-Off

Shoutout to the 32 folks who came out to Camp Byng for our season opening Tee-Off Tournament!

We had the largest Junior and Recreational division fields that we’ve had in two years! It’s very encouraging and rewarding to see so many beginners taking up the sport.

Junior Division

Toby’s back and he’s taking names early in the season!

Toby managed to squeeze by club newcomer Indy by just a stroke to take a victory in our first club tournament of the year.

Toby credits his Axiom Rhythm fairway driver for helping him save strokes at Camp Byng. He throws it forehand and backhand, but mostly forehand… especially on tee-shots, is what he informed SCDGA personnel.

It was a close race in Junior, with just 10 strokes over 18 holes separating 1st from 5th place. Shout out to best buds Indy, Stanley, Noah and Zack for playing a killer round of disc golf!

Recreational Division

Beckett Thomson becomes the youngest winner in Recreational Division history! The 14 year old absolutely shredded the field at Camp Byng, shooting an even par round to win his division. A talented thrower of the disc, Beckett is a focused individual who has set his sights on taking down the Rec Division this year!

Three strokes behind Beckett was club newcomer Aron Reid with a solid score of +3. Reid did a great job of keeping Beckett honest, as the two played their rounds on the same card and took turns at the top until Beckett managed to pull away.

Tying for third spot was club newcomer Cort Gerlock and 13 year old Evan Connors at +7. Shoutout to Gerlock for putting up a great score while also scoring a card of four Junior competitors. Shoutout to Connors for throwing up a birdie on Hole #3 after getting chirped by his own Father.

Intermediate Division

The Champ is back!

Your 2024 Intermediate Division champion Adam Grout picks up another victory at Camp Byng thanks to some stellar, consistent play and some solid caddy work from Callum McDonald.

Grout edged out Jerry Griffin by a single stroke and Toby Johnson by just two strokes. It was a close race in Intermediate right until the final hole! These three competitors figure to factor heavily into the standings as the season progresses, but don’t sleep on the likes of Kelly Perreur-Lloy, Nathan Hunt, Chael Macarthur and Matt Thomson, also.

Again, this division has all the makings of being our most competitive division in 2024.

Advanced Division

Don’t look now, but “Tournament Rod” is back.

2023 Intermediate Division champion Rod Dalziel clutched up on Sunday to claim his first tournament victory in Advanced, beating David Lacroix by just a stroke.

Dalziel has a history of coming up big in big moments on tournament Sundays. If this is a preview of what’s to come, Advanced Division competitors better be ready for Dalziel’s particular brand of mental warfare.

Behind Lacroix by a single stroke was newcomer Regan Hately, meaning our podium was separated by only two strokes total over 36 holes. Come to think of it… maybe this will be our most competitive division in 2025?

Open Division

Some call him ‘The Whitler’, others know him as ‘The Guru’, to us though he’s just the Champ.

Glen ‘The Whitler’ Whitlock takes the win in Open by a whopping seven strokes over second place finisher Jordan Newman. Whitler was precise with his drives all day and took advantage of birdie opportunities when they arose. It was a classic, textbook round of Whitler Golf on Sunday at Camp Byng.

Whitlock was piping hyzer flips down narrow hallways, throwing in nose up spinners from Circle 2 and going up and over obstacles with a two-handed basketball putt. The guy simply does it like no one else and does so with the utmost class and sportsmanship. He’s a literal living legend and we’re so fortunate to have him in our club.

Shoutout to the four of five Open division competitors who managed to actually finish the tournament, saving themselves from the utter embarrassment of carding a DNF.

Again, big thanks to all our competitors for making our season’s first tournament a fantastic event.

Shoutout to tournament course designer Matthew Kliewer for all his work on the grounds and to snack/nibbles sponsors West Coast Nibbles.
